How to Become a Massage Therapist in Tennessee
In the birthplace of country music, massage therapists get licensed to practice through the Tennessee Board of Massage Licensure. You’ll need to renew your massage therapist license every even-numbered year and complete 24 hours of continuing education credits. To apply for a license, you must:
- Be at least 18 years of age
- Complete at least 500 hours of classroom and clinical courses from an approved massage program
- Pass the MBLEX exam offered by the FSMTB or the NCETMB/NCETM exam offered by NCBTMB
- Provide proof of coverage by a professional liability insurance policy
- Pass a criminal background check with fingerprinting
- Verify every state license you hold or have held
- Fill out the Mandatory Practitioner Profile Questionnaire for Licensed Health Care Providers
- Pay any application, licensure, state, and renewal fees
