To offer beauty services in Vermont, you must obtain a license from the Vermont Office of Professional Regulation. Be sure to check for the most up-to-date guidelines when you’re applying for a license. These are the main steps to become licensed:
- Be at least 18 years old.
- Have completed high school or the equivalent.
- For cosmetology: complete 1,000 hours of training at a state-approved cosmetology school or 1,500 hours of apprenticeship training.
- For esthetics: complete 500 hours of training at a state-approved esthetician school or 750 hours of apprenticeship training.
- Complete an application through the online services platform.
- Register for and pass both written and practical exams.
- Pass the Vermont jurisprudence exam.
- Pay the required fees.
