Idaho Beauty License Guidelines
To offer beauty services in Idaho, you must obtain a license from the Idaho Barber and Cosmetology Services Licensing Board. Be sure to check for the most up-to-date guidelines when you’re applying for a license. These are the main steps to become licensed:
- Have completed tenth grade or the equivalent.
- For cosmetology: complete 1,600 hours of training at a state-approved cosmetology school.
- For esthetics: complete 600 hours of training at a state-approved esthetician school.
- Review Idaho laws and rules.
- Pass the NIC (National-Interstate Council of State Boards of Cosmetology) written and practical exams (administered by ProV).
- Submit an application through the online licensing portal.
- Pay the required fees.
Applications are reviewed between board meetings. Once you’re approved, you can verify your license on the Division Website.
