Hawaii Beauty License Guidelines
To offer beauty services in Hawaii, you must obtain a beauty operator license from the Hawaii Board of Barbering and Cosmetology. Be sure to check for the most up-to-date guidelines when you’re applying for a license. These are the main steps to become licensed:
- Be at least 16 years old.
- Have completed 10th grade or the equivalent.
- For cosmetology: complete 1,800 hours of training at a state-approved cosmetology school.
- For esthetics: complete 600 hours of training at a state-approved esthetician school.
- Submit a license application to the board.
- Pay the required fees.
- Register with Prometric to take the licensing exam.
- Pass both the written and practical portions of the exam.
- Once you pass, the board will notify you with further instructions for getting your license
