To offer beauty services in South Carolina, you must obtain a license from the South Carolina Board of Cosmetology. Be sure to check for the most up-to-date guidelines when you’re applying for a license. These are the main steps to become licensed:
- Be at least 16 years old.
- Have completed 10th grade or the equivalent.
- For cosmetology: complete 1,500 hours of training at a state-approved cosmetology school.
- For esthetics: complete 450 hours of training at a state-approved esthetician school.
- Pass the NIC (National-Interstate Council of State Boards of Cosmetology) written and practical exams.
- Submit an application.
- Pay the required fees.
